Community Outreach Programs
The Buttery’s diverse programs help teenagers and adults who have drug and alcohol and substance use disorders and mental health issues.
Programs designed for lasting change
People are supported in every stage of their recovery and to avoid relapse and minimise harm.
The Buttery’s community outreach services cover vast areas of the NSW Mid-North Coast and Northern Rivers Regions – from Port Macquarie in the south to Tweed Heads in the north and west to Grafton and Nimbin.
Family Support Programs (FSP)
Location: Phone counselling; face to face counselling from Tweed to Lismore, Byron Bay and Ballina.
Program Overview
Family relationship counselling, focusing on family dynamics.
- Evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Collaboration with Family Drug Support (FDS).
- Education on cycle of addiction for the family.
AOD Continuing Coordinated Care (CCC)
Location: Tweed Heads to Port Macquarie. Northern NSW and Mid North Coast, NSW.
Program Overview
Case management and coordinated care for people receiving alcohol and other drug treatment.
Supports people in recovery to connect with others, focus on their strengths, maintain a healthy lifestyle and lead a fulfilling life. This includes assistance with obtaining housing, education, training and employment.
CORE Parent Program
Location: The Core Parents program is delivered in 7-week blocks during school terms in various locations across the Northern Rivers.
Program Overview
The Buttery’s CORE Parent Program offers a comprehensive non-residential 7-week, day rehabilitation program, complemented by 4 months of aftercare support.
Designed specifically for parents and caregivers dealing with problematic alcohol or drug use.
Drawing upon The Buttery’s wealth of expertise in treating substance dependency, participation in the CORE Parents Program is provided at no cost.
- Recovery Support: The CORE Parents program aims to support parents in their journey to recover from substance use disorders while empowering them to develop essential skills for selfcare, parenting, and family dynamics. Participants will learn effective coping mechanisms and strategies to enact positive life changes for themselves and their families.
- Parenting Support: We empower parents with evidence-based strategies for effective parenting, child development, and emotional regulation. By enhancing parenting skills, participants can create a positive environment for their children.
- Improving Relationships: The program focuses on improving relationships with self, child, and family. Participants will gain insights into communication, conflict resolution, and building healthy connections.
Post Custodial Support Program (PCS)
Program Overview
Post Custodial Support (PCS) is a new drug and alcohol support program aimed at helping people who are being released from prison. The program is a voluntary program aimed at helping people who are leaving incarceration, transition back into the community.
PCS provides integrated case management for people with harmful use of drugs and alcohol.
The types of case management support can include:
- Individual and group AOD counselling
- Peer support from someone with lived experience of drugs and alcohol or being in custody
- Assistance with getting Centrelink or other government services, and
- Help getting connected with a GP and other health specialists, like a dentist or a mental health counsellor.
Counselling Support Service (CSS)
Program Overview
Providing mental health support services for individuals, families, and carers living on the Northern Rivers.
Our PACFA registered counsellors offer support to people aged 16-plus, living in the Northern Rivers area. Evidence-based interventions promote collaborative decision making and goal setting, and include:
- Psychoeducation
- Cognitive-behavioural therapy
- Relaxation strategies
- Skills training
- Interpersonal therapy
- Narrative therapy.
The Way Back NSW North Coast
Program Overview
A non-clinical support service focused on providing practical, psychosocial support for people, and their families, experiencing a suicidal crisis or who have attempted suicide.
The Way Back NSW North Coast Service Model is delivered by trained Support Coordinators under the supervision of a Clinical Lead (for a period of up to three months).
Eligibility
- The participant must be in the North Coast region
- The participant has recently attempted suicide; or is experiencing a suicidal crisis (includes suicidal ideation; and/or engaging in self-harming behaviour)
- The participant is not already being supported by an existing intensive assertive outreach service that can support their mental health needs
- No individuals will be excluded from eligibility (subject to the above), due to age, gender, disability, language, or cultural background.
Referrals for The Way Back NSW North Coast program are received from Emergency departments, Community Mental Health and Mental Health Departments.
