HASI-Plus

HASI-Plus is a transitional rehabilitation and recovery-oriented, high intensity, community-based program for people with severe mental illness and significant functional impairment.

The program integrates dedicated clinical and intensive psycho-social support (16-24 hours per day, seven days per week) with stable community-based accommodation.

How to take part in the program

Referrals are accepted state-wide (NSW). Eligible people will be adults (18+) with a diagnosis of severe mental illness (typically schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or schizo­affective disorder), a mental health disorder or experience an extreme level of emotional or psychological distress, which also results in significant functional impairment.

Exclusion criteria include those who are receiving duplicate supports or are at significant risk of harm to themselves or others.

Who is the program for

People who have been in long-term institutions, such as mental health facilities, correctional facilities or long­term care in hospitals will be prioritised.

Where is HASI-Plus

HASI-Plus is based in Kempsey on Dunghutti Aboriginal Country around 350km north of Sydney and 16km inland from the coast on the Macleay River. The Kempsey population is around 15,000.

The Support Team

HASI-Plus is staffed 24/7. Our team is made up of support staff and their team leader who provide psychosocial supports to participants. There are two Clinical Leads from The Buttery and from MNC LHD. They work in close collaboration with the team and provide a range of holistic and clinical supports to participants.

The program is a transitional rehabilitation and recovery program which integrates clinical support and high-intensity psycho-social support with stable community-based fit-for-­purpose accommodation. The program is targeted to support individuals with severe mental illness and functional impairment to continue their recovery journey and live a quality life in the community.
